Trek Domane 6.2 2013
Bursting onto the scene leading up to the 2012 Tour de France, the brand new Domane brought with it a new era of road bike technology for Trek Bikes, introducing an alternative to the well-proven Madone. For 2013, the Madone becomes a lighter and more race-focussed package, while the Domane takes the mantle for being the all-day endurance machine with a slightly more upright geometry and its bitumen-soothing IsoSpeed decoupler. The 6-Series Domane utilises a higher grade of carbon construction compared to the 5-Series that in all tests comes out on top; Stiffness, weight and compliance are all improved. For the average cyclist, this difference may not be noticeable enough to justify the price difference, but for those enthusiasts who rack up the km's, the improved performance from the 6.2 will be worth every penny.

The new Domane (pronounced Doh-mah-nee) model in the Trek Bikes range is aimed at the performance minded rider who values comfort and stability over an overly aggressive, twitchy ride. The heart of the Domane is the Iso Speed Decoupler which sits at the intersection of the top tube and seat tube and allows the seat tube to move independently from the top tube. When seated and riding over rough, uneven road surfaces the seat tube is able to flex and absorb the shocks before they reach the saddle, essentially isolating the rider from the bumps. On longer or rougher rides this means you will experience far less fatigue as your body is not constantly being jarred or having to brace for impacts, it also allows you to keep a consistent pedal stroke over rough ground. The Iso Speed Decoupler is a very simple sytem comprising of an alloy axle and 2 sealed cartridge bearings which in total weigh only 50 grams, factor this small amount of extra weight into an already light weight 6 series US made OCLV carbon frame and you still have a competitively light build. The fork also receives some attention from Trek in an effort to smooth out the front end of the bike. The Iso Speed fork is designed to absorb and disperse vibration with it's swept leg design and extra curve above the dropout.  Continuing the comfort them is Trek's Iso Zone handlebar which has closed cell foam pads inbuilt ino the top and drops of the bar to add extra cushioning for the hands.Geometry is also a key part of the new Domane with a slightly longer wheelbase, than the Madone giving the Domane a more relaxed, stable feel. Head tube height is marginally higher than the Madone to give a little extra comfort for those all day efforts.

Equipped with the latest Shimano Ultegra groupset that follows the more expensive Dura-Ace very closely in performance, shifting gears will be silky smooth and almost silent. In fact, the only real difference between Dura Ace & Ultegra is the use of some exotic materials to shave off some grams, so if your main concern is performance and you're looking for the most bang for buck in a road group you really can't go past Ultegra. Bontrager takes care of the wheelset with the new Race Lite Tubeless Ready model. This wheelset can be easily set up tubeless with the Bontrager Tubeless rim strips. Tubeless is commonplace in mountain bikes but is slowly catching up in road. Tubeless road set ups allow lower pressures to be used for more comfort and grip whilst removing the risk of pinch punctures. Keeping things stiff and responsive are the R3 25mm tyres which feature a high quality construction for grip, low rolling resistance and a mid level of puncture protection. The redesigned carbon Ride Tuned seatmast offers more vertical compliance than a standard seatpost arrangement and is also considerably lighter too. Rounding off the comfort theme is an InForm Bontrager Affinity saddle with hollow rails to keep weight low and ergonomics high.

Our favourite features of the Domane 6.2

IsoSpeed Decoupler

At the core of Domane’s comfort technology is the IsoSpeed decoupler, the result of an 18-month study of how a racing bike performs over rough roads, and how that performance affects the rider

Power Transfer Construction

Put more power to the road. Our Power Transfer Construction puts more power to the road by optimising the E2 > down tube > BB90 > rear wheel connection.

StepJoint Technology

An OCLV Carbon exclusive. After moulding each specific piece (or lug) for a frame, we join the lugs into a complete frame using StepJoint Technology, our proprietary method of bonding two carbon structures together perfectly, with no overlap, no excess carbon, and consistent tube wall thickness throughout
BB90: Wider is Better

BB90 is the widest bottom bracket available on a road bike. This Trek-exclusive carbon BB makes the frame lighter, stiffer, and quicker to accelerate

Bontrager IsoZone Bar

Vibration from rough roads can cause numbness, fatigue, even loss of control. Our exclusive solution: integrated IsoZone handlebar pads that reduce vibration displacement by 20% while keeping the same ergonomic profile. You get comfort and confident control, with less additional weight than add-on solutions like gel padding or double-wrapped tape.

Rider Tuned Seatmast

Our Ride Tuned seatpost is the lightest, most comfortable solution for day-in, day-out performance and comfort. The no-cut design eliminates traditional seatpost clamping forces, so we can use less material at the seat tube junction, resulting in a lighter frame.

With the a road bike range extending from the Tour de France proven Madone carbon race bicycle, to the amazingly lightweight and capable alloy 1 & 2 series bikes, Trek has got you covered
